TWENTY new homes are set to be built in Crowle after the region’s largest social landlord secured £1.5 million from a Government funding pot.
Building on the new homes at Manor Gardens will begin around March time and will see the creation of 16 new apartments and four bungalows.
The project is part of a wider scheme from housing provider North Lincolnshire Homes which will see it build an additional 48 homes across the region.
Pete Stones, Director of Regeneration at North Lincolnshire Homes, said he was delighted the organisation was granted the funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
He said: “It is a big boost for us as a housing provider and for our communities that the Government supports our plans to expand. Along with our partners – Synergy Housing Solutions and David Bishops Associates – we are on course to begin our building project in early 2012.
“Not only will this allow us to provide much needed housing in rural areas but it is also significant in that we now have a seat at the table of the decision makers who decide on funding for major developments.
“We also have a chance to establish ourselves with a track record of delivering new homes on time and on budget.
“This is the best way we can give something back to the local community - by tackling the waiting list with quality new homes in mainly rural locations.”
North Lincolnshire Homes demolished the previous Manor Gardens site in 2008. Back then the development consisted of bedsits which were old fashioned and lying empty.
North Lincolnshire Homes is one of 146 housing providers across the country to receive the funding as part of the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency’s £1.8billion four year affordable homes programme.
To date the housing association has built 14 new eco-friendly rural homes; five in West Butterwick and nine in Hibaldstow.
David Curtis, Executive Director at the HCA, said: “This is a good outcome for Yorkshire and The Humber in a difficult financial climate.
“We are pleased that the successful bidders expect to create more than 8,000 new homes in the region by 2015, taking the total for the area to 13,400 with the inclusion of existing commitments.”
North Lincolnshire Homes recently successfully completed an ambitious £162million improvement programme on its properties, promised to tenants at transfer.
